Ao Nang
Ao Nang is Krabi's main tourist hub — a small town with a beach, a strip of restaurants and bars, and a pier that sends longtail boats out to Railay, Phra Nang Cave, Koh Poda, Chicken Island, and the Four Islands.
It's busier and more built-up than people expect, especially in high season. The beach itself is pleasant but not exceptional — the surrounding boat trips are what it's really about. Think of Ao Nang as your base camp for exploring the area.

Getting to Railay from Ao Nang
Longtail boats depart from the Ao Nang beach pier regularly. The crossing takes about 15 minutes and costs 100 THB per person in daylight hours (more at night, negotiate). There are also boats from Krabi Town pier.
Railay is peninsula-only accessible by water — the jungle behind it is too steep to hike through. This is what keeps it car-free and relatively undeveloped compared to most Thai beaches.
Railay Beach
Railay is split into Railay West (nicer beach, calmer water, most hotels), Railay East (mangroves, longtail pier, backpacker bungalows), and Phra Nang (the most spectacular beach in the area — accessible by foot from Railay West, famous for cave and princess shrine).
