Pattaya Beyond Walking Street — Hotels and Areas That Will Surprise You

June 23, 2026

Let's get this out of the way: yes, Pattaya has Walking Street. Yes, it has a reputation. But writing off Pattaya because of its nightlife district is like writing off Bangkok because of Khao San Road — you're missing the bigger picture.

Modern Pattaya has family water parks, wine valleys, some of Thailand's best golf courses, and a food scene that's seriously improved. Here's the Pattaya that doesn't make it into the jokes.

The Better Areas

Na Jomtien (South Pattaya)

Quiet, clean beaches, and home to several of Pattaya's best resorts. Ten minutes from central Pattaya but a world apart in atmosphere.

Pratumnak Hill

Between Pattaya Beach and Jomtien. Elevated position with sea views, quieter streets, and some excellent mid-range hotels. Walking distance to both beaches.

Wongamat Beach (North Pattaya)

The nicest beach in central Pattaya. The Sanctuary of Truth (a stunning all-wood temple) is at the north end. Upscale condos and hotels, minimal tourist hassle.

Na Jomtien to Sattahip

Further south, this stretch has some genuinely nice beaches that most tourists never reach. Navy Beach and Dongtan Beach are clean and quiet.

For Food

FAQ

Has Pattaya cleaned up its image?

Significantly. Walking Street still exists but represents a shrinking portion of Pattaya's tourism. The city has invested heavily in family attractions, golf tourism, and convention facilities. Areas like Na Jomtien and Wongamat are genuinely pleasant resort destinations.

Is Pattaya good for families?

The right parts are excellent for families — Jomtien Beach, Na Jomtien, water parks, and family resorts. Avoid central Pattaya Beach Road and Walking Street for family visits. Many Thai families holiday in Pattaya — follow their lead on where to go.

How far is Pattaya from Bangkok?

150 km, about 1.5-2 hours by car depending on traffic. Bus from Ekkamai terminal: 2.5 hours, 120 THB. Private minivan: 1,500-2,000 THB. The new motorway has significantly reduced travel time.
