Railay Beach Hotels Krabi — How to Get There and Where to Stay
Railay Beach is one of Thailand's most spectacular settings — towering limestone karsts rising from emerald water, accessible only by boat. No cars, no roads, no chain hotels. Just dramatic scenery and a genuinely unique atmosphere.
Getting to Railay
Railay is a peninsula, but limestone cliffs cut it off from the mainland completely. The only way in is by boat.
From Ao Nang (closest town): - Longtail boat: 100-150 THB per person, 15 minutes. Boats leave when they have 8+ passengers or you can charter for 800-1,000 THB. - Available from 7:30 AM to around 6 PM (later in high season).
From Krabi Town: - Longtail from Khlong Jilad Pier: 150 THB, 45 minutes. Fewer boats — mainly morning departures.
Important: During monsoon season (May-October), seas can be rough. Boats still run but may be suspended on very bad weather days. Your luggage will get splashed — use dry bags.
The Four Beaches
West Railay
The main beach — wide, sandy, sunset views. Most mid-range and luxury hotels face this side. Best for swimming.
East Railay
The mangrove side. Muddy beach (not for swimming) but home to most budget accommodation and restaurants. A 5-minute walk through a path connects East to West.
Phra Nang Beach
Arguably the most beautiful beach in Thailand. Limestone cave at one end, crystal water, fine sand. No hotels directly on this beach — it's a 10-minute walk from West or East Railay.
Tonsai Beach
The climber's beach. Separated from West Railay by a rocky headland (walkable at low tide, otherwise take a boat). Budget bungalows and a backpacker vibe.
Where to Stay

Railay Bay Resort & Spa — Great location on West Railay with beachfront rooms. 3,000-6,000 THB/night depending on season. The pool makes up for the room size.

FAQ
How many nights should you stay at Railay Beach?
Two to three nights is ideal. One night feels rushed — you'll spend half your time getting there and back. Three nights lets you explore all four beaches, try rock climbing, and take a day trip to nearby islands.
Is Railay Beach good for families?
West Railay is family-friendly with calm, shallow water for kids. The walk between east and west is easy. However, the boat transfer can be tricky with small children and luggage, especially in rough seas. Ao Nang might be easier for families who want similar scenery without the boat logistics.
Does Railay Beach have ATMs and shops?
Yes — East Railay has a couple of ATMs, 7-Eleven, and small shops. Prices are 20-30% higher than the mainland because everything arrives by boat. Bring enough cash for your stay to avoid ATM fees.
